Capital Surpasses 'Beacon of Light' Goal for Local Food Banks

For seven weeks, our “Beacon of Light” campaign accomplished amazing things for our friends, neighbors, and community members throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Thanks to the efforts and dedication of our amazing Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Direct Support Professionals, as well as the generosity of our team members, we were able to donate $4,412.46 to local food banks in six counties!

For each hour worked by our amazing field staff throughout the Capital Healthcare Services umbrella, which includes sister companies Amare Medical Staffing and Harmony Home Care, the company pledged 5 cents in donations, translating into over $500 donated each week, and showing the powerful things we can accomplish when we come together!

Here is a breakdown of exactly where our donations went:

  • $669.15 – Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank
  • $668.85 –Westmoreland County Food Bank
  • $943.52 & KIA stuffed with non-perishable food items – Butler Area Food Bank (in conjunction with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and St. Vincent DePaul)
  • $564.50 – Fayette County Community Action Agency Food Bank
  • $539.47 – Washington County Food Bank
  • $520.72 – North Hills Food Bank
  • $506.25 – The Corner Cupboard Food Bank (Greene County)

With many food banks having the capability of creating 5 meals from each dollar donated, this translated into an estimated 22,062+ meals for people in need! This is an amazing feat we have accomplished together, and we hope that our employees and supporters know how crucial they were to that process.

Everyone who had a part in this campaign should be immensely proud.  Your selfless efforts and acts of generosity have shone a light of hope through the darkness of the COVID-19 pandemic, both directly through the care you’ve provided, as well as indirectly by feeding families throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania.

We are so grateful for the tenacity our amazing employees have shown throughout these last seven weeks. Even in these uncertain times, they have not given up their passion or purpose for providing quality care to people in need.  They are the heart of our Capital Healthcare Services Family, and we thank them for helping us to make this campaign a success!

Capital Launches Donation Campaign for Local Food Banks

With 22 million Americans, including 1 in 5 Pennsylvanians, currently unemployed due to the pandemic, we find ourselves, at Capital, to be blessed to have gainful employment. Now, more than ever, is the time for our company and teams to be driven by our core values, not only in how we conduct our business, but also in support of the communities we serve.

In an effort to support the Greater Pittsburgh and Westmoreland County Food Banks, as well as our many neighbors relying on their donations to feed their families, we will be coordinating a “Stuff a Kia” donation drive.

We’ll be collecting donations of non-perishable food items at our Harmony Home Care office at 8960 Hill Drive in Irwin from April 20-29. We will also coordinate to pick-up any donations that cannot be dropped off. In addition, we will also be accepting monetary donations via Venmo, user name @Capital-Healthcare.

Each employee who donates financially or through nonperishable food items will be eligible to win one of five $50 gift cards!

Capital will also be honoring our “Front-Line Heroes” by donating a nickel for every hour worked by our nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Direct Support Professionals to various local food banks in the communities we serve for the next seven weeks. We hope to make donations to support individuals throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. We are so proud of the continued effort made by our amazing field staff to provide exceptional care, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and are grateful for the opportunity to honor them by serving our communities even further!

We thank you for your support in our donation campaign, and look forward to all that we can accomplish together!

Capital Cooks Up Something Special at the Ronald McDonald House

Capital Healthcare Services had a great time preparing breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House, located at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020.  The breakfast event, which has become an annual tradition for the company, is a rewarding and enjoyable way for us to come together to show our passion for compassion!

We thank the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh for giving us the opportunity to serve, as well as our compassionate employees who donated their Saturday morning to this amazing charity! Having the opportunity to help families in need, even through a warm meal, is something that helps us both grow and bond as an organization, as well as grow our philanthropic footprint in the community we love.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who donated to our Holiday Gift Drive for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh! Our generous participants made it possible to pack two of sister company Harmony Home Healthcare's vehicles to the brim with donations, making it our most successful gift drive to date!

We are proud to be part of an organization and team that values compassion, charity, and the importance of giving back to the community! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and we look forward to what 2020's gift drive will bring!

Capital Hosts 5th Annual Pink Out Day for Breast Cancer Awareness

In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 62,930 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. Also, about 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and it is estimated that 41,760 women will die from breast cancer this year.

If these statistics shock you, you aren't alone! That is why each year we team together to raise awareness for those who are fighting the battle.

Our offices were decked out in pink from head to toe, with some employees even getting a little creative for the cause!

'Capital's Avengers' Return for Walk to End Alzheimer's

Capital Healthcare’s team ‘Capital’s Avengers’ returned to take on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 21st at Twin Lakes Park in Latrobe, PA! It was a beautiful day for a walk in the park, and many members of the community came out to show their support for the Alzheimer’s Association with us!

As an extra fundraiser for the walk, we also organized a Charity Corn Hole Tournament at the Fort Allen Volunteer Fire Company’s “Club 104”.  The tournament included a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, and a Pie the CEO raffle!  Capital’s President and CEO, Art Hoopes, was a great sport, ultimately receiving a pie from his own wife!

With everyone’s support and generosity, we were able to raise a total of $1,090 for the Alzheimer’s Association, in their fight to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.  We thank everyone who took the time to participate and contribute to this noble cause.

'Capital's Avengers' Take on Walk for Children's Hospital

Capital Healthcare Services had a super time supporting Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for their 2019 Walk for Children.  Our company’s Core Value Team along with our walking team, Capital’s Avengers, organized an epic fundraising campaign throughout the month of May, complete with weekly 50/50 raffles and a company-wide bowling event, with support from Lokay Lanes and Caliente Pizza in Monroeville.

These fundraising efforts resulted in a grand total of $2,125 raised for Children’s Hospital! We are so happy to have been able to support such a great cause! We sincerely thank everyone who supported our campaign and look forward to Capital’s Avengers Part II next year!
